Exact Birmingham City points tally predicted as Blues chase Wolves record
Birmingham City are on track to break Wolverhampton Wanderers' EFL points record
Birmingham City’s quest to break the League One points record has been made all the more difficult by a brutal end-of-season run-in.
Blues’ match at Stevenage this weekend has been postponed for international call-ups and their trip to Blackpool has been rearranged due to the Vertu Trophy final at Wembley on April 13.
The Stevenage game will be played on Thursday, April 24 and the Blackpool fixture has been set for Wednesday, April 30. Blues therefore have 11 games to play in 36 days after the international break.
Post-Wembley, Blues will play six games in just over two weeks to complete their League One season.
While Blues’ promotion isn’t really in doubt, with 83 points on the board plus a lead of 12 points and a game-in-hand, fatigue could realistically come between Chris Davies’ side and records.
Blues are chasing the League One points record, which is 103 set by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2013/14, and they could yet take Reading’s EFL record of 106 in a 46-game league season.
Statistical analysis site Opta predicts that Blues will reach 104 points and break the League One record. In order to do that, Blues need to win seven of their final 10 matches.
Opta rates Blues’ chances of promotion at 100 percent and believe they are 99.94 percent certain to take the title. Wycombe, who regained second spot with a dramatic 3-2 win at Rotherham on Tuesday, are predicted to pip Wrexham to runners-up and join Blues in the Championship.
