Rotherham had already maintained their momentum at the top of the table with victory at Lincoln on Friday night and Wycombe, Peterborough, Coventry, Portsmouth and Sunderland all picked up three points on Saturday - the latter at the expense of Ipswich.

Wycombe kept hold of second place after beating Bristol Rovers 3-1. Adebayo Akinfenwa opened the scoring in the ninth minute as he converted Dominic Gape's daisy-cutter cross.

Jayden Mitchell-Lawson restored parity with a 20-yard strike, but a quickfire double saw the hosts put the game out of reach. Jamal Blackman did well to keep out Joe Jacobson's powerful shot with Darius Charles on hand to turn home the rebound before Matt Bloomfield fired home the third from inside the box in the 41st minute.

Peterborough made it five wins in a row with an impressive 4-0 victory over fading Oxford.

Strikes from Siriki Dembele, a double from the division's top scorer Ivan Toney and a late fourth from Josh Knight kept Posh hot on the heels of the top two despite having Nathan Thompson sent off.

A late Maxime Biamou goal was enough to give Coventry all three points as they overcame a plucky Bolton side in an entertaining 2-1 victory.
