Lambert's deal, which runs until 2025, was announced just a few hours before kick-off, and Ipswich responded by taking a 54th-minute lead through James Norwood's header.

Wycombe ended a run of three successive league defeats, though, when David Wheeler equalised 12 minutes later.

Oxford dropped from second to fourth after they were undone by a Reece James goal at Doncaster, losing 1-0, with Rotherham and Coventry proving the main beneficiaries of that result.

Daniel Barlaser's goal five minutes from time gave Rotherham a 2-1 home win against Blackpool - a result that moved them second, three points behind Wycombe.

Michael Smith had given Rotherham an early lead, only for Armand Gnanduillet to equalise before half-time.
