Derby County manager looking to offload goalkeeper this summer amid Blackburn Rovers interest

Derby County are looking to offload former England international goalkeeper Scott Carson this summer according to the Daily Mirror Transfer Blog.

The 33-year-old was the number one goalkeeper for the Rams before being ousted by Kelle Roos in February of last season.

Jonathan Mitchell is another goalkeeper on the Derby books and the 24-year-old is being given this pre-season to prove his potential by new manager Phillip Cocu.

With Mitchell and Roos seemingly ahead of Carson in the pecking order this could leave him surplus to requirements at Pride Park ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Carson is also entering the final year of his contract at Derby and Cocu could decide to cut his losses now and try to recoup a fee for the Englishman.

The former West Brom man won the Supporters’ Player of the Year at Derby in 2016/17 and continued his excellent form the following season as he helped them reach the play-offs.

Blackburn Rovers have already expressed an interest in Carson with their manager Tony Mowbray having worked with him whilst he was the boss at West Brom in 2008.

Rovers are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper having lost their number one choice David Raya to Championship rivals Brentford and Carson could fit the bill with Mowbray making an experienced goalkeeper his number one transfer target this summer.

Carson has made over 150 appearances for Derby since his arrival from Wigan in 2015 but at this stage of his career he could look for guaranteed regular first team football which he is more likely to get at Blackburn.
