Could this Arsenal youngster be the answer to West Brom’s defence following the departure of Craig Dawson?

Following the recent departure of Craig Dawson to Watford and the constant speculation surrounding the future of Ahmed Hegazi, West Bromwich Albion could find themselves with only Kyle Bartley as their available senior centre back by the time the season begins on August 3.

There have been recent reports today in The Telegraph linking Krystian Bielik to West Brom. He had a very successful loan spell at Charlton Athletic last season and made 31 appearances helping them to win promotion so he certainly seems to be a very credible defender.

Arsenal reportedly don’t want to sell him which allows us to believe he has real potential for the future and with Dawson having left and Hegazi being the subject of interest West Brom could certainly do with reinforcements in the centre back area.

Slaven Bilic seems to be a manager who wants to make his own choices in terms of transfers so if he is seriously targeting Bielik then there is no reason why he couldn’t force himself into the first team reckoning.

It is no secret that West Brom are short of centre backs however Bielik can also play in defensive midfield which is another department where improvements need to be made. There has been an obvious shortage of defensive minded midfielders since players of the ilk of Claudio Yacob and Youssouf Mulumbu left the club.

Bilic seems to have already brought a positive and enthusiastic aura to the club. The players seem to buy into his mentality and want to play for him with him being well respected in the game. Derby, Brentford and Middlesbrough are also interested in him so the Baggies definitely face a battle in capturing the Polish Under 21 international.

Bielik has two years left on his current deal so Arsenal aren’t under too much pressure to sell him and if a loan can be agreed with a Championship club this may be the best option for the next phase of his development.
