Rotherham Offer Ward Contract
Friday, 5th Jul 2019 18:51

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has revealed he has offered a contract to released Blues midfielder Grant Ward.

The 24-year-old previously spent 2015/16 on loan with the Millers from Spurs making 35 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring two goals.

“I am a massive fan of Grant, I've always liked him,” Warne told the Rotherham Advertiser.

“I like the way he plays and his ability on the pitch. He can also play in numerous positions.

“He is nowhere near being fit yet but he is available. I’ve put an offer to him and hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can come to a conclusion one way or another.”

Ward, who made 75 starts and 23 sub appearances for Town, scoring eight goals, having signed from Tottenham in 2016, saw his 2018/19 cut short when he suffered an ACL injury at QPR on Boxing Day. He is currently continuing his recovery with Town.

Earlier in the summer the Millers assistant manager Richie Barker said the South Yorkshiremen were also interested in Tom Adeyemi, like Ward released by Town this summer and another ex-Rotherham loanee.

He'll look like Ronaldo, for the first 45 minutes at least! :-)

Wish him a full recovery, and best wishes for a fresh start at Rotherham - where Paul Warne clearly believes he can do a job. But that's football - all about perceptions and opinions. Don't, however, believe his departure will prove to be a ‘shooting ourselves in the foot decision' as, say, Kiefer Moore.......

Perhaps if were playing C'ship football next term PL might have retained him. But, in all honesty, he's not too great a loss.

Rotherham are being greedy. Doing a lot of strengthening for their L1 push.
Offering contracts to players who aren't even close to returning from serious injury.

I rated him at times, however, Grant wasn't consistent enough. Good luck fella, all the best.

Good luck to the lad, he was a bit like Finidi George, great start and then fizzled out for me. Maybe a fresh start is what he needs.

Good luck to the lad, wouldn't get in our XI now, hope he gets regular football again after terrible injury.

Clearly a player who has talent. However he came off the bench on many occasions and looked great then started the next game and disappeared. Needs to find consistency. Feel like he is good enough to continue a good career at this level though. Good luck, but not against us though.

I know a lot of people dont appreciate Grant but I honestly think he would have been a very good squad player for us.
Would be no surprise if he killed it next season for Roth.

We have an embarrassment of riches in midfield for league one. Whatever you think of Ward, it would have made no sense to retain him when we're on a limited budget and need reinforcements in other areas.

Extremely inconsistent. Flattered to deceive. Wish him well for future and recovery though.

Of all our releases, I still think this is the one that could come back to haunt us.
