Swindon Town eyeing loan deal for Rotherham United striker

Swindon Town want to sign Rotherham United striker Jerry Yates on loan for next season.

The Robins are already plotting potential summer acquisitions and could move for the 22-year-old, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Swindon, who are managed by former Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens, finished 13th in League Two this season and are hoping to do better in the next campaign.

Yates has emerged as a possible loan signing for them and he would give them something different in attack.

The Doncaster-born forward made seven appearances for Rotherham in the Championship this season as Paul Warne’s side were relegated back to League One. He impressed on loan in League Two with Carlisle United in the first half of the campaign, scoring six goals in 23 appearances in the league before returning to the New York Stadium in January.

Yates started his career with a spell in the Doncaster academy but later joined Rotherham. He made his debut for the Millers in a Championship game against Birmingham City in 2015 and has since played 50 more times, chipping in with five goals.

The young striker has also enjoyed loan spells at Harrogate Railway, Harrogate Town and obviously Carlisle.

He may be in Warne’s plans for Rotherham next season seen as they are back in League One. However, Swindon will be waiting in the wings if the Miller decide to loan him out again for more regular football.
