Emmanuel Recalled From Shrews Loan
Friday, 18th Jan 2019 16:07

Town have recalled right-back Josh Emmanuel from his loan spell at League One Shrewsbury.

Emmanuel, 21, has been with the Shrews since August, having spent the whole of the last campaign on loan at Rotherham United.

Shrewsbury manager Sam Ricketts told Shrewsweb Emmanuel couldn't be guaranteed regular football with the Shropshire side: "We agreed it would be better for him to go and play every week and we couldn't guarantee him that so we agreed to let him return to Ipswich. We wish him all the best in the future."

The academy product, who has been back training at Playford Road this week, made 18 starts and two sub appearances for the Shrews but last appeared in a League One match on December 22nd.

Emmanuel's last first-team appearance for the Blues was as a sub on the final day of the 2016/17 season as Town were beaten 3-0 at Nottingham Forest.

The Londoner, who was with West Ham's youth set-up before joining the Blues, is out of contract in the summer but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further season.

Donacien out and Emmanuel back in, loving this. Another poke in the eye for Paul Hurst.

Really pleased he is back with us - hoping he can get in the team and stay there. A really good player!

WORRYING - that a young player goes out on loan to get experience in a lower league and cannot be guaranteed a start? Sounds like he needs more experience somewhere before he has grown into the player we need right now ... I am still keen on the guy from Rangers at least for the immediate need of "solid straightaway". That said, I LIKE Emmanuel and he is bulkier and stronger than other options? He is already better all round than Jordan Spence so the future number 2 shirt is Emmanuel's ... but is he ready NOW ?

Whilst many will read this and think it's because PL wants to play him in the team, reading the above PL has only recalled him as he won't be playing at Shrewsbury. I'd love to see him turn out this season but I doubt he will given the way PL has talked about the youngsters needing help.

I've always liked this lad. Think he has the ability to be a good regular for Ipswich. Also has a pleasant manner about himself. An absolute unit as well. Can you imagine a (if we had that Cameron vickors as well) a potential back 4 of josh, Cameron vickors, Collins and Kenlock. Would go from a smallish back 4 to a back 4 of units!! You'd have to brick it if you a forward!!

good news that he's back, let's hope he gets a chance, (though it's pennington's to lose at the moment after the rotherham game)

BlueMachines I read it as Ricketts trying to save face with his own fanbase. We'll see whether Lambert keeps Emmanuel here or not, but it's clear that he doesn't rate Donacien. Until we get another RB in, it looks like Emmanuel will at least be our backup option?

Pretty sure he will be heading back out on loan, he wasn't getting game time at Shrewsbury...

Strange that he played just about every game up until Dec 22nd but now isn't guaranteed a start - have Shrewsbury got someone new in?

I, too, read it that he is going to be loaned out somewhere else.

A lot of the above comments saying he'll go into the side are wrong I reckon.
PH has recalled him because he isn't getting gametime.
I think he'll be out on loan somewhere else.
Still too inexperienced I think. I'd be overjoyed to be proved wrong with that assumption.

Did very well at Rotherham last year so not sure what went wrong at Stanley. Cover for Pennington l guess. Needs games.

Sam Ricketts is relatively new in at Shrewsbury, being appointed early December. So maybe he doesn't fancy Josh as his main RB, or perhaps he wants to free up a loan place. I think he's a great young player. Still a bit raw, but now has 64 league appearances under his belt. Give him a chance Paul if we have injuries or need to rest anyone.

Plays 18 games + sub appearances not a regular, hmm, probably told he was coming back so dropped him, then garbage spoken, welcome back Josh missing for to long, not to physically dissimilar to a certain Titus B.

Josh did ok at Shrewsbury but lost his place to Bolton who since getting his chance has been decent, I guess it's hard to drop one of their own if he's playing well.
I read it as he's going out on loan again somewhere he will play every game however that coming from Ricketts and not Lambert himself, I'd rather us keep him in and around the squad from now until the end of the season! Kenlock and Emmanuel playing together in the first team is a lovely touch for the fans and for the youth system but in the situation we are in I can't see it happening this season. Good luck Josh!

If he's not guaranteed playing time at SHrewsbury, why are so many hailing him as the answer for us? If he was good enough, surely Shrewsbury would've had him in as the first on the team sheet. I think the best scenario would for him to go back out on loan, to better judge his suitability for taking up the option for next season. We're not going to know the answer to that based on how he does in training or sitting on our bench.

Not going to be playing in our 1st team, he can't get into the Shrewsbury side. Will probably go out on loan somewhere else.

I hope he's improved. Had more bad games than good first time around. A liability at times. Maybe an improvement on Spence but he's definitely not the solution.

Josh was good at Shrewsbury, ask any Shrews fan, but the change of management has affected his selection. Was sent out by Hurst and taken on by Askey who was sacked. The temp manager Danny Coyne then reverted to playing the usual right back, who has kept his place (Bolton).
Not played since Askeys sacking, so would make sense to be returned.
I still rate him good enough to be our main right back.

Josh looked very good with Rotherham in their play off final against the shrews but there must be a reason he isnt winning a regular place in a L1 team+that hardly bodes well for the step back up to the championship. Just look at the difference Collins has made + its plain to see that Ip need a seasoned hard man at RB.
