Leeds United ‘still considering’ move for Arsenal ‘keeper despite imminent signing of Real Madrid man

Leeds United are reportedly ‘still considering’ a loan move for Arsenal shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez, despite the imminent arrival of Real Madrid’s Kiko Casilla.

It has been widely reported over the weekend that Leeds United are nearing a deal to bring Real Madrid ‘keeper Kiko Casilla to Elland Road. This morning, it was reported here on The72 that the deal is progressing quickly and that a deal could be completed soon.

However, Leeds are still yet to make a decision regarding a loan move for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to the Daily Mail. Prior to the transfer window, it was rumoured that Marcelo Bielsa was looking to bring the fellow Argentinian in. And, despite the imminent arrival of Casilla, a decision is yet to be made regarding a loan move for Martinez.

It is expected that a decision will be made in the early stages of the week, with Casilla seemingly inbound.

Injury worries and the unconvincing form of Bailey Peacock-Farrell have prompted Bielsa to act in the January window.

Martinez was looking to go out on loan in the summer, with first-team chances at a minimum under Unai Emery. Over his time at Arsenal, the 26-year-old has spent most of his time on loan spells away. The Argentine has spent time on loan Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolves and Spanish side Getafe over the past seven seasons.

He has played just 14 times for Arsenal’s first-team since graduating from the Gunners’ academy.

It would be surprising to see Martinez move to Leeds with Casilla set to sign. Providing that either Peacock-Farrell or Casilla would be the two ‘keepers battling for the #1 spot, chances are that Martinez would be the third choice at Elland Road, just like he is at Arsenal.

If he wants to leave the North London side to go out and get game time, a move to Leeds would seem not to be the most sensible switch.
